Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

Down to their final four games of the regular season, the IronPigs (74-66) will now play one game against the fifth-place Syracuse Chiefs (68-72) at Coca-Cola Park... With a 5-0 loss to the Yankees last night, the Pigs dropped the five-game, "home-and-home" series to Scranton/WB, 3-2, and fell 3.0 games behind Pawtucket in the Wild Card race. The Pigs have gone just 23-30 since July 6 -- going from a season-high 3.0 games up to a season-high 8.0 games back in the North... The Chiefs -- Washington's top affiliate -- have won three consecutive games and five of their last six contests. Last .500 on July 6 (44-44), Syracuse is just 24-28 since.

RHP Tyson Brummett (4-4, 3.14) will start for LHV against RHP Jeff Mandel (5-5, 2.70).

Tonight features Friday Night Fireworks postgame, presented by Bethlehem Orthodontics... First-Pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

A SEASON ON THE BRINK:

Last night, the Pigs lost 1.5 games on PAW -- which swept a DH in GWN and has now won 6 G in a row -- and are now a season-high 3.0 GB of the Wild Card... Meanwhile, SWB -- which clinched the North Division title last night -- has gone 19-6 in its last 25 affairs. Since the All-Star Break (July 12), the Yanks boast a 33-15 record -- going from third and 4.0 GB to first and 6.0 GA.

WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN...:

For the Pigs to make the postseason, there are two scenarios that must happen (barring lost games due to weather):

[1] The Pigs sweep their final 4 games (1 vs. SYR, 3 vs. BUF) and PAW losses at least 3 G in its 4-G home series vs. SWB

[2] The Pigs win 3 of their final 4 G and PAW is swept in its 4-G home series vs. SWB
