Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, Pa.) - IronPigs Charities presented by The Air Products Foundation, in conjunction with many community partners, announced "Fill the Bus" on Wednesday at Coca-Cola Park -- a school supply collection program aimed at providing aid to the roughly 20,000 children in the Lehigh Valley that begin the school year without the necessary school supplies.
"We couldn't be happier to partner with these outstanding organizations in helping to provide necessary school supplies, such as pencils, calculators and glue sticks to area youth," remarked IronPigs Charities President Kurt Landes. "IronPigs Charities is committed to providing educational opportunities for children in the Greater Lehigh Valley area."
Added IronPigs Director, Community Relations Sarah Marten: "To reach our goal of providing school supplies to every child in need, we need the support and generosity of the entire Lehigh Valley. We are extremely hopeful that with the assistance of individuals and businesses in the community, we can collect enough supplies for 20,000 area youth."
The bus, supplied by First Student, Inc., the leading school bus operator in North America and Canada with a fleet of more than 60,000 buses, will be situated outside of the AT&T Plaza at Coca-Cola Park, beginning on Saturday, August 2. The "Fill the Bus" campaign concludes on August 17 in preparation for the beginning of the school year.
IronPigs Charities, in partnership with various community partners, including The Air Products Foundation, B104, First Student and Coca-Cola, will fill book bags with supplies for thousands of children at the end of the campaign.
Beginning August 2, individuals can bring school supplies to every IronPigs home game or drop off their donation at The Majestic Clubhouse Store located at Coca-Cola Park on non-game days. Contributions can also be made at various area businesses and destinations, including local Wawa's, The Crayola Factory, Brew Works locations in Allentown and Bethlehem, Musikfest, Bounce U and Nazareth Powerhouse Gym and more. Visit www.ironpigsbaseball.com for updated collection spots as new locations will be added throughout the 15-day "Fill the Bus" campaign. Individuals can also make monetary donations online at www.ironpigsbaseball.com.
Local businesses are encouraged to use "Fill the Bus" as an employee giving campaign and the organization that provides the greatest amount of school supplies will be honored on August 24 prior to an IronPigs home game.
Suggested school supplies for donation include, but are not limited to, backpacks; #2 pencils; highlighters; scissors; rulers; glue sticks; glue; crayons; wide-ruled notebooks; 3-ring binders; loose leaf binders; and folders.
As a recognized 501 (c)(3) on the state and federal level, IronPigs Charities is organized to provide educational and recreational opportunities for children in the Greater Lehigh Valley area and provide financial assistance to charitable organizations in the Greater Lehigh Valley area serving underprivileged and disadvantaged youth and their families.
