Lorain County Ironmen News Release

(Slippery Rock, PA)- The Lorain County Ironmen dropped a heart breaker on opening night, 3-2 at Slippery Rock. The Ironmen got the tying run to third base in the 9th inning, but were unable to get the run in. Shane Sullivan (Wheeling Jesuit) took the loss; Cody Strause (Three Rivers College) got the win.

The Ironmen sent Adam Beach (Lake Erie) to the mound to start the game. Beach threw 4 strong innings. He allowed an unearned run, 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 4. The run came when Kyle Brown walked to start the 3rd inning. He moved to third base on 2 throwing errors and scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Jon Capasso (UW-Milwaukee).

Michael Burke's solo homerun in the top of the 4th inning tied the score at 1. Burke drove the first pitch he saw over the right field wall.

The Sliders took control for good in the bottom of the 6th inning. Sullivan allowed back to back singles to start the inning. Both runners would come back to haunt Sullivan thanks to a single and a sac fly.

Cameron Palmer (Toledo) came on to relieve Sullivan in the 7th. He faced 6 batters, striking out 5 with an overpowering fastball. The Ironmen fought back in the 9th inning. Jeff Cola (Toledo), started the rally with a 1 out single. Cola moved to third on a single by the next batter, Conner Weir (Danville Area C.C.). Nolan Neuschaefer followed with the 3rd straight single of the inning scoring Cola and sending Weir to third with the tying run. A fly out and a strikeout ended the game.

The Ironmen will be back in action Friday as the host the Butler Blue Sox in the 2011 home opener. It will be Elyria community night. The high school marching band will be on hand with fireworks to follow. It's a 7:05pm start time. You can catch all the action on Ironmen radio at www.lcironmenbaseball.com.
