Lorain County Ironmen News Release
Eric Knight goes seven strong innings in his second start of the year, earning his first win in a 10-2 victory over the first place West Virginia Miners (7-2). Knight allowed two runs (one earned) during his outing and he threw 67 of his 91 pitches for strikes.
Nolan Neuschaefer put Lorain County ahead 1-0 in the first inning after he scored on a single from Nate Antone. Neuschaefer scored four times for the Ironmen tonight and Antone finished the game 3-for-5 witha double and four RBI.
In the third inning, with Neuschaefer aboard and Antone at the plate, Miners' pitcher Danny Brown threw a fastball in the dirt that Antone struck out on. The ball went to the backstop and Antone reached first safely, extending the inning. Mike Burke and Ryan Wonders each followed with RBI singles, and after Burke scored on another wild pitch, the Ironmen led 4-0.
Lorain County (4-4) tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning sparked by back-to-back extra-base hits by Sam Alvis (triple) and Nolan Neuschaefer (double). Nate Antone drove in his second run of the ball game with a single to right field and Ryan Wonders later drove in Antone with a sacrifice fly.
The Miners used two doubles in the fifth inning to bring the Lorain County lead to 7-1 in the fifth, but the Ironmen answered with two more in the bottom of the fifth on Nate Antone's third run-producing hit of the night.
After the Miners scored in the top of the seventh, Cody Koch added an RBI double for good measure in the home half of the frame to give Lorain County a 10-2 advantage.
Matt Panek made his Ironmen debut, pitching a scoreless eighth inning. He struck out two batters. Ryan Wonders also played well in his debut. Aside from his two RBI, Wonders' fourth inning web gem gave the Ironmen defense a boost. Wonders fielded a high chopper on the run behind second base and made an off-balance throw in time to beat Aaron Priestes up the first base line.
Tonight's offensive performance follows a 6-2 win last night over Chillicothe. Cody Koch belted his second home run of the year against the Paints, while Nate Antone hit his third round-tripper as well. Mattie Dedoes, Zach Speer and Spencer Bryant combined to allow only four hits to the Paints, who are off to a solid offensive showing early in the year.
