Lorain County Ironmen News Release
Sam Alvis blasted a pair of 2-run homers in a 5-4 loss to the Butler Blue Sox on Thursday night. In both cases, Alvis tied the game with his home runs, but the Blue Sox broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth with a two out RBI double from Elliot Caldwell.
Spencer Bryant lasted four innings in his first start of the season. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits and walked three. Robert Sakosky made his Ironmen debut on the mound, going three innings allowing only one run.
Alvis took the mound for the eighth inning and kept the score at 5-4 to cap off a solid performance.
On Thursday, Anthony Naso pieced together his best start of the season. Naso was lights-out through his first four innings, keeping the score at 1-1.
After the Blue Sox manufactured a run from a lead off hit batter in the second, the Ironmen tied it in the fourth with doubles from Mike Burke and Nate Antone.
In the fifth, Naso loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a hit batter. Third baseman Kyle Petty knocked in the go-ahead run with a high chopper to third base. Jon Koepf's only play was at first, but there was still an out to be had. Naso beared down and struck out catcher Matt Albaugh on three pitches to excape the jam.
Butler added a run in the seventh on a single down the third base line by Albaugh, making it a 3-1 ball game.
Lorain County couldn't manage a base hit in the eighth or ninth innings and fell to the Blue Sox, 3-1.
The Ironmen begin a two game series tomorrow night in Chillicothe. First pitch is 7:05 PM.
