Dubois County Bombers News Release
The Dubois County Bombers opened their season Thursday night with a hard-fought, exciting 6-4 victory over the Nashville Outlaws. David Mueller was dominant on the hill for the Bombers, throwing seven strong innings and giving up just one earned run. Mueller ended his night with four strikeouts in the winning effort.
Offensively the Bombers started out slow, but their bats came alive in the sixth inning. The offense combined for five hits in the 3-run inning. Jon Hedges, a first baseman from Indiana State University, drove in two on a double to right field to give the Bombers a 3-1 lead. In the seventh, Dubois County also notched three runs, two of them coming on a two-out single by third baseman Joe Perez.
In the eighth, Nashville got back in the game after being down 6-1. Nashville scored three in the inning, a result of three hits and an error by Bomber pitcher Kurt Kudrecki on what would have likely been a double play.
Dubois County entered the ninth with a 6-4 lead, and Marist College pitcher Jake Rifkin made sure it didn't get any closer. Rifkin started a double-play for the first two outs of the ninth, and then struck out the final batter to close the game.
Bomber shortstop Grant Zawadzki got the best of his brother Troy, who started at the same position for Nashville. Grant ended the night 2-for-4, while Troy wound up with an 0-for-4 night.
The next Bomber home game will be on Sunday, June 5th against the Danville Dans. It will be Family Sunday at the park, where fans will receive 50 cents off of a hamburger/hot dog and drink combo. Families of three or more will receive $1 off the ticket price for each family member. Additionally, immediate families of any size will not pay more than $20 TOTAL to get in the gate! Game time is set for 6:15 pm EDT. Don't miss another exciting Bombers' game, where there's big league baseball and small town prices!
