Aberdeen, MD- Zach Britton won his second consecutive start and Joe Nowicki hit a three-run homer as the IronBirds beat Lowell 6-2 to return to .500 for the first time since June 26.
Britton three-hit Lowell through five innings and won for the second time in as many starts. He walked two and struck out two.
Joe Nowicki went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run during a five-run first inning to lead the IronBirds offense. Nowicki was one of five IronBirds hitters who had two hits apiece.
Aberdeen scored five runs in the first inning against Lowell starter Nick Hagadone, Boston's supplemental round selection-55th overall-who was making his professional debut.
The IronBirds added an insurance run in the fifth inning when Joe Mahoney drove in Anthony Martinez with a single to left.
Game Notes- Lowell pitching coach Laz Gutierrez for arguing balls and strikes in the second inning...IronBirds outfielder Matt Angle stole his team-leading 13th base in the fourth inning...Aberdeen sends RHP Andy Schindling (0-1) to the mound in the series finale on Thursday...Lowell counters with RHP Jordan Craft (3-0).
