Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Down 5-0 in the 4th, the Aberdeen IronBirds (18-13) put up a 5-run 4th and added another run in the 6th before faltering down the stretch to lose 9-6 to the New Jersey Cardinals (14-15). The 'Birds have lost a season-high four in a row and will look to bounce back against Williamsport before taking on Brooklyn and Auburn in their next 11 games.
Brandan Spillers gave up 4 runs (3 earned) in 2 innings of work on 5 hits and a walk. He suffered the loss and is now 3-3 on the year.
Jersey got 5 second-inning runs off starter Luis Ramirez, who had a rare night of poor control, walking four and hitting one in that frame. He pitched just two innings tonight and gave up 5 earned runs, and now has an ERA of 3.00, up from 1.85.
Aberdeen tied it at 5 with a big fourth, which featured Corey Shafer's 3-run HR, his first with Aberdeen. Later, an RBI double from Brian Bock and an RBI single from Rafael Diaz would knot the game at 5.
In the 6th, CJ Smith doubled and scored on Bock's sac fly to give Aberdeen their first lead of the night at 6-5.
Levi Robinson went 3-5 with a double and a run while Smith and Diaz had two hits each as the Birds tallied 11 hits.
Williamsport will come to Ripken Stadium for a 3 game set starting Tuesday at 7:05. Ryan Childs will make the start in the opener, and will be followed by Carlos Perez and Russ Brocato.
