Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Aberdeen, MD- Matt Brown hit a tiebreaking two-run triple in the seventh to help Mahoning Valley overcome an Anthony Martinez inside-the-park home run and win 8-2 on Friday night in Aberdeen.
Matt Brown's triple into the right field corner off Andy Schindling helped Mahoning Valley snap a three-game losing streak and overcome Anthony Martinez's inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning.
Martinez tied the game in the sixth when he ripped a ball to deep center field over the head of Scrappers center fielder Adam White. White crashed into the wall at full speed and fell to the ground in obvious pain as Martinez scored easily.
Brown's triple broke open a tie game after the teams traded runs through the first six frames.
Mahoning Valley struck first when Jeff Hehr scored on a passed ball in the third inning. Ryan Adams tied the game in the fourth with an RBI single to shallow center field. Adams' single drove in Joe Mahoney, who doubled to left earlier in the inning.
The Scrappers added two runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth to cap a 14 hit offensive effort.
Mahoney went 3-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to seven games. Mahoney is hitting .452 (19-for-42) with four home runs and 14 RBI in 10 games in August after driving in a total of 13 runs over his first 30 games.
Game Notes- This three-game series continues on Saturday when Aberdeen RHP Josh Tamba (1-1, 6.39 ERA) opposes Mahoning Valley RHP Daniel Frega (4-1, 3.21 ERA).
