
Intimidators Set Season Highs in 12-8 Win

It was a record-breaking day for the Kannapolis Intimidators at the plate as they set season-highs in runs, hits and runs in a single inning in a 12-8 victory in game one of a four game series with the Asheville Tourists on Thursday night to begin an eight-game road trip.
The game didn't start so well for the Intimidators (22-19) as Matt Wickswat allowed Avery Barnes to reach on a walk, Jared Clark reached on an error and Kent Matthes singled to load the bases in the first before the bases were cleared on a double by Angelys Nina giving the Tourists a 3-0 lead.
As Wickswat (4-3) settled down, he went 6.2 innings allowing three earned with seven strikeouts, the Intimidators bats heated up. Off starter Nick Schnaitmann, the Intimidators put up six runs in the third inning to take the lead for good. Singles by Daniel Wagner, Rafael Vera, a hit by pitch to Kyle Colligan and two more singles by Ian Gac and Nick Ciolli scored three runs before the big hit in the ballgame, a three-run triple by Trayce Thompson to give the Intimidators the most runs in a single inning this season and a 6-3 lead.
Schnaitmann (3-5) struggled over four innings, allowing ten hits and seven runs as the Intimidators added another run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to balloon their lead to 9-3. With a six run lead, the Tourists (14-25) made a mini-comeback scoring two more runs off Wickswat aided by an error to make it 9-5 before Ian Gac doubled in the eighth and Nick Ciolli hit a two-run blast to left centerfield to stretch the lead back to six.
In the bottom of the inning off Orlando Santos, the Tourists got two on before Jose Gonzalez hit a three-run home run to make it 11-8 and before a save situation could be attempted in the ninth, Jose Vargas hit a solo home run to give the Intimidators a 12-8 lead. Garrett Johnson came on in the ninth, walked two batters but worked a clean inning to seal the victory.
The 12 runs is the most the season for the Intimidators and their 18 hits his also a season high. Vargas had four hits, scoring twice and driving in three. Gac and Vera each had three hits while Ciolli and Thompson had two. Each member of the Intimidators had at least one hit. The Intimidators are now 12-5 on the road this season.
The Intimidators will play game two against the Tourists on Friday at 7:05 as Justin Collop (2-3) will take the hill against Juan Gonzalez (1-0).
