Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Greenville, SC - Augusta GreenJackets starter Chris Heston had a night to forget in an 11-4 loss to the Greenville Drive on Thursday night in Greenville. The loss snaps a six-game winning streak, the longest of the season for the GreenJackets.

In the second, Michael Almanzar greeted Heston - who retired the side in order in the first - with a solo home run to left field. Later in the inning, Dan Butler doubled home a run to add to the early lead. Former GreenJacket Vladimir Frias singled in a run two hitters later and then Reymond Fuentes followed with the inning's big blow - a three-run home run off the video board in right to make it a 6-0 game.

The GreenJackets got a run back in the third on a Nick Liles groundout, but the pounding continued in the home half of the inning. After sending ten to the plate in the second and scoring six times, the Drive sent nine to the plate in the third and scored five more runs. Frias hit a bases-loaded double to left-center, scoring a pair. Fuentes, who fell a double shy of the cycle, tripled home two more. Derrik Gibson sent Heston to the showers with an RBI single to make it an 11-1 game in the third.

It was not a pretty line for Heston (2-4), who allowed all 11 runs - all earned runs - on ten hits and two walks with a strikeout. The bright spot on the mound for the GreenJackets was a bullpen that held the Drive to four hits in 5.2 scoreless innings with a trio of relievers - Brian Irving, Hector Correa and Jose Valdez - getting the job done for Augusta.

The Jackets got further runs off Greenville starter Yeiper Castillo in the fourth on a throwing error and in the sixth on an RBI double by Tommy Joseph and a run-scoring single by Evan Crawford. Castillo (2-3) weathered 5.2 innings and allowed four runs, three earned, to get the win. He scattered five hits and two walks while striking out four. Cesar Cabral followed with 3.1 innings of two-hit, scoreless relief for his fourth save of the year, striking out three.

Jorge Bucardo (2-2, 2.08) gets the ball for the GreenJackets on Friday night as they look to regroup against the Drive and start a new winning streak. Kendal Volz (3-2, 3.22) will oppose for the Drive. First pitch in Greenville will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
