Intimidators fall to 'Birds 5-4; rain drops Game 2

(Salisbury, MD) â The Intimidators pulled to within a run rallying from a four run deficit before falling Wednesday 5-4 to the Delmarva Shorebirds at Arthur W. Purdue Stadium. The second game of the double-header was postponed due to rain.
The visiting Intimidators took the lead when Robert Valido, 2-3 2B R BB, stole third base and scored on an error on the throw to third by Shorebird Catcher Matt Houston.
The lead did not hold as the Shorebirds came back with three runs off Intimidators starter Ryan Rodriguez in the first inning on Dustin Yount's bases loaded double clearing the bases. Delmarva added a pair of runs in the fourth to go ahead 5-1.
The game became close in the top of the sixth. Chris Young led off with a double and took third on a single by Valido. After an Andy Gonzalez strikeout, Tom Brice doubled in both runners. With two outs, Micah Schnurstein double in Brice pulling Kannapolis within a run.
However the rally would end there. In the ninth, Antoin Gray followed Chris Kelly's strikeout with a bunt single. Reliever Tony Neal walked the next two batters, Chris Young and Robert Valido. Andy Gonzalez hit a soft grounder back to the pitcher who came home with the throw forcing Gray out. Brice flied out to end the game.
The two games missed in the series will be made up at a time to be announced. Kannapolis heads to East Lake, Ohio for a four-game series with the Lake County Captains. The Intimidators return home Tuesday, April 20th vs. the Cap City Bombers at 7:05pm.
