Captains Split With Legends

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) â The afternoon sure looked warm, but if you found your way to the shade you may have caught some cold air. So too was the Lake County Captains offense, which appeared hot at one instance and yet chilled away at another. The team appeared to come alive in a 6-0 victory in the first game that included a six-run fourth inning, yet wilted away in losing the nightcap, 2-1, against the Lexington Legends.
The Captains (3-4) used a six-run explosion in the fourth inning of the first game to get past the Legends. The Captains batted around as Ricardo Rojas led off the inning with a home run to left. Chris De La Cruz singled, followed by a walk to Bill Peavey. Kevin Kouzmanoff singled to follow, and Mike Conroy reached on a fielder's choice. Ryan Mulhern, Javi Herrera, and Micah Schilling all reached on base hits to follow, and the Captains grounded out six runs on as many hits to take control of the ballgame. They never looked back and won the game, 6-0.
Sean Smith (1-1) recovered from a dismal first start to work six scoreless innings, scattering three hits and striking out six. He walked just one. Mike Collar (0-1) took the loss for the Legends, giving up six runs in just 3.2 innings of work.
Adam Miller gave a sparkling performance in the second game tonight at Eastlake Ballpark. The 19 year-old right-hander struck out nine in six innings, giving up just one hit on the evening. It was that hit though that proved costly, as Freddy Acevedo took advantage of the only Miller mistake to give the Legends a 1-0 lead. Acevedo was the only batter who reached base off Miller.
The Captains fought back in the fifth, leveling the score at one on a single by Ryan Goleski. The Legends countered though in the top of the 7th, as Justin Humphries knocked in what came to be the game-winning RBI on a single to right.
The Captains threatened in the bottom of the 7th with a two-out single by Schilling, but were unable to tie it after Ryan Goleski grounded out to end the game. Ryan France (1-0) earns the win for Lexington, while Adam Hanson (0-1) took the loss for Lake County.
The Kannapolis Intimidators come to town tomorrow for a four-game series lasting through Sunday. Tomorrow's probables are Nelson Hiraldo for Lake County and for Brian Miller of Kannapolis.
