Hagerstown Suns change team name
April 14, 2004 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Hagerstown Suns News Release
Once again the Hagerstown Suns'home opener has been postponed due to inclement weather and poor field conditions as today's 1:05pm doubleheader has been postponed. Each game of the Suns-Crawdads three game home-opening series has now been rained out. All three of the games will be made up as part of doubleheaders in Hickory on May 3rd, 4th and 8th.
Due to all the rain, the Hagerstown Suns have decided to officially change their name to the Hagerstown Rain Drops. "We will officially be called the Rain Drops until we play an actual game at Municipal Stadium," said Rain Drops General Manager Kurt Landes. "With all the poor weather we have had, the title Rain Drops seems much more appropriate than Suns."
The Rain Drops will try again tomorrow to open Municipal Stadium's gates, this time against the Charleston Alley Cats. Tomorrow's game will not only be the home opener, but it will also be the first Thirsty Thursday of the season. All domestic drafts are $1.00 and imports $1.50 all night long. The Rain Drops are also encouraging fans to bring their tax returns to the ballpark as part of "Tax Night" festivities where the Rain Drops will make sure they are postmarked and sent to the post office in plenty of time. Rain Drop fans will then be able to drown their sorrows or toast their returns at the first Thirsty Thursday of the season, presented by Heineken, WKMZ 95.9fm and WQCM 94.3fm.
The Hagerstown Rain Drops, of the South Atlantic League, are the Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The Rain Drops opening homestand continues through Sunday, April 18th (that is, if we actually get to play a game).
