Published on April 8, 2019 under International League (IL1) News Release

The International League announced today that Durham shortstop Jake Cronenworth and Gwinnett right-hander Mike Soroka have been named the League's first Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the 2019 season, covering the period from April 4-7.

JAKE CRONENWORTH, Durham Bulls IL BATTER OF THE WEEK Late in the 2018 season, Jake Cronenworth was promoted to Triple-A for the first time and became a key member of Durham's postseason run to a second consecutive Governors' Cup title. As the 2019 campaign begins, no player in the League had more hits or scored more runs over the first four days of the season than Cronenworth. Remarkably, he has collected thirteen hits in his first eighteen at- bats for a .722 average, highlighted by five doubles. Cronenworth banged out multiple hits and scored at least once in every game so far, including back-to-back four-hit efforts Friday and Saturday against Charlotte.

25-year-old Jake Cronenworth is in his fifth season playing professionally. He was selected by Tampa Bay in the 5th round of the 2015 draft. He has yet to make his Major League debut. Cronenworth is a native of St. Clair, Michigan.

MIKE SOROKA, Gwinnett Stripers IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK After being hampered by a shoulder injury much of the past year, right-hander Mike Soroka made his first outing in nearly 10 months on Saturday against Norfolk and displayed why he is considered one of the game's top prospects. Soroka retired all 15 batters he faced, striking out seven, as Triple-A Gwinnett blanked the Tides 7-0 at Coolray Field. With five perfect frames, Soroka picked up his first victory of the season. The Stripers are off to a 3-1 start, tied for 1st place atop the IL South Division.

21-year-old Mike Soroka is in his fifth season as a professional pitcher. Atlanta selected him in the 1st round of the 2015 draft. He made both his Triple-A and Major League debuts in 2018 before being sidelined with shoulder problems. Soroka is a native of Calgary, Canada.
