Inter Miami CF News Release
MIAMI - Inter Miami CF announced today that it has acquired 2022 USL Championship Young Player of the Year finalist Jake LaCava from St. Louis CITY SC. In exchange, Inter Miami will send $150,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM), plus up-to $100,00 in potential additional performance-based GAM to St. Louis. The forward joins the Club after being selected from the New York Red Bulls by St. Louis in the 2022 MLS Expansion Draft.
"We're excited to add a promising young player like Jake to our group and feel he'll be a good fit for what we are building here," said Inter Miami CF Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson. "He had a very strong season in the USL Championship and we believe in his talent. We look forward to seeing him develop with us."
LaCava, 21, is a forward who spent the 2022 season on loan with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the USL Championship. He helped guide the Florida side to a strong season, finishing third in their conference and reaching the semifinals of the playoffs. He starred for the team along the way, finishing the campaign with 12 goals - second on the team - and five assists - tied for fourth on the team. Overall, he made 37 appearances for the team, tied for the most of any Rowdies player, and started 30 of them.
The Connecticut native began his professional career with the New York Red Bulls, signing for their USL Championship affiliate in 2020. With New York Red Bulls II, he made 46 appearances across two seasons, tallying 11 goals and eight assists in the process.
