Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Kinston, NC - Furious rain, subsequent poor field conditions, and the forecast of more rain to come suspended action between Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Kinston Indians at Grainger Stadium on Friday night. Each team had one hit in a scoreless game with the third inning about to get underway when the tarp hit the field. The teams will conclude the contest at 6 p.m. on Saturday and play a seven-inning game thereafter.
Starter Ivor Hodgson, Jr. faced the minimum in his two innings of work, striking out two. While he allowed a double to Lucas Montero in the first and walked Kyle Bellows in the second, both men made baserunning mistakes. Hodgson picked off a napping Montero at second while Bellows attempted to take second on a ball in the dirt to catcher Wil Myers. The 19-year-old backstop fired the ball to second where Rey Navarro's tag retired Bellows and ended the inning.
Offensively, Myers and Ernesto Mejia drew back-to-back two-out walks in the first before Nick Francis bounced into a force at second. The next inning, Salvador Perez singled against Joey Mahalic, but one out later, Rene Oriental bounced into an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play.
