Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- The Modesto Nuts held the Inland Empire 66ers to a season-low two hits in a 2-0 shutout of the Sixers at San Manuel Stadium on Sunday. The win gave Modesto (48-72, 22-28) the series victory two-games-to-one but Inland Empire did manage to win seven of the 11 games the teams squared off in this season.

Modesto got a two-out solo homer against Inland Empire (41-79, 18-32) Jeremy Rhoades in the first from Josh Fuentes. The dinger was Fuentes' seventh long-ball of the season. The Nuts got to Rhoades (4-12) in the second after two quick outs for another run when Luis Jean singled, stole second and came home on Wes Rogers' RBI single. That made it 2-0 and would cap the scoring for the day. Rhoades allowed just one more hit in his remaining three innings of work.

Nuts starter Jack Wynkoop (5-2) dominated allowing just a double to Roberto Baldoquin and a single to Josh Delph in his six innings of work. He did not walk anyone and fanned six including the first three batters he faced. Wynkoop was lifted despite only tallying 50 pitches. Max Schuh relieved Wynkoop and allowed a pair of walks in the seventh but escaped unscathed. Logan Cozart and Luis Niebla each added a perfect frame of relief with Niebla nabbing his 12th save in 12 tries.

Ronnie Muck and Sam Holland were perfect out the pen for the 66ers as each righty tossed two innings. Muck struck out two batters. Modesto did not have a hit after the third inning. The loss was only the fourth time this year the Sixers' offense failed to score; the shutout was Modesto's eighth of the year.

The 66ers open a series at Lake Elsinore on Monday at 6:00 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com and joined in progress at 6:30 pm on 1570 AM KPRO.
