Storm Get Washed Away in Sweep by Blaze

August 15, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

For an offense that was struggling just a few days ago on the road, the Lake Elsinore Storm was just the right opponent for the Bakersfield Blaze. Jay Baum hit a 2-run homer in the first inning and Kyle Petty had a multi-home run performance as Bakersfield pummeled Lake Elsinore, 11-8. Following a thrilling 14-13 victory in 11 innings, Bakersfield's offense lit up the night skies yet again.

Baum, Petty, and Justin Seager all went deep for the Blaze as they improved their record to 65-55 on the season. Seager's solo shot is his third in two days and Petty drove in 5 runs with his deep drives for Bako.

Bakersfield did make things tougher on themselves and starting pitcher Anthony Misiewicz by committing four errors, which led to four unearned runs in the game. Misiewicz lasted only four innings, striking out six, walking three, but also giving up five runs (3 earned) in the no-decision.

Art Warren picked things up and earned his first victory with the Blaze this year to improve his record to 1-1. The right-hander tossed four innings, striking out four, and surrendering two unearned runs in the outing.

Petty's 3-5 performance included a 3-run homer off of Jerry Keel in the second inning and a 2-run knock off of Mark Zimmerman in the fourth inning to make it 10-3.

At the bottom end of the lineup, Seager was 2-4 with his 10th homer of the year and Daniel Torres was 3-4 with an RBI single.

Bakersfield ends their regular season match-up against Lake Elsinore by winning 9 of 15 games as they face San Jose and Stockton the rest of the season.

The San Jose Giants come to Sam Lynn Ballpark on Monday night. First pitch is at 7:15pm with Dan Besbris on the call courtesy of TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
