Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Inland Empire's win streak ended at five with a 4-3 loss in Rancho Cucamonga Thursday night. Quakes (11-17) Catcher Mike Pericht hit two home runs of the 66ers (15-13) relievers to negate a fourth straight quality start for reigning California League Pitcher of the Week Nick Maronde, and help the home team avoid a sweep.

Inland Empire starter Nick Maronde once again brought his A-game to the mound, throwing six innings while allowing just one earned run. While it was not the 12 strikeout performance from the week prior that earned him the previously mentioned league award, Maronde did leave the mound with the lead.

The 66ers built that advantage on a couple of early clutch hits from Jeremy Cruz and Jett Bandy. The two 66ers hitters each had two out RBI knocks in the second inning to put the 66ers up 2-0. In the 3rd Travis Witherspoon led off with a triple which was followed by an Andrew Heid double to make it 3-0 Inland Empire, but that was the last time the 66ers touched the plate.

Rancho Cucamonga was able to get two runs back in their half of the 3rd, one scoring on an error. Then Mike Pericht played the hero in the late innings for the Quakes. The only hits surrendered on the night by the bullpen, were Pericht's game tying solo home run in the seventh, and his walk off winner in the 9th.

The road trip continues for Inland Empire, with San Jose being the next stop for the 66ers. Friday's game one is scheduled for 7:00, and fans can tune in for the broadcast on AM 1050 KCAA beginning at 6:55 for the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Pre Game Show.
