Erie Explosion News Release
(Erie, PA)- Following a physical contest with the Marion Blue Racers in week five the Erie Explosion will look to overcome several key injuries as they prepare to face the Bluegrass Warhorses on Sunday March 16th at the Erie Insurance Arena. Erie has several starters listed on the injury report for this weeks game as they attempt to extend their 12 game home winning streak that extends back to the 2012 season. Erie starting quarterback Aaron Smetanka was knocked out of the game in the 4th quarter of the Marion game with an apparent knee injury. Rookie Quarterback Taylor Genuser is expected to make his second start this season if Smetanka is unavailable. Genuser started the Explosions' week 2 victory over the Marion Blue Racers. Explosion Head Coach Shawn Liotta has added veteran quarterback Darmel Whitfield to the roster in advance of Sundays game. Whitfield a long time indoor veteran and product of Gannon University served as the Explosion backup quarterback during the teams 2013 CIFL Championship season. "We are hopeful to have Aaron back as soon as possible, and he will be evaluated further this week. I have a tremendous amount of confidence in Taylor Genuser to lead our team if his number is called. He has a great work ethic and has had great focus in practice learning and getting better each day. It was important to lure Darmel Whitfield out of retirement as he has a great grasp of my offensive system and is a proven winner and playmaker. He gives us another option as we get our offense on track for the second half of the season and our run towards the 2013 CIFL Championship," commented Erie Explosion Head Coach Shawn Liotta. The Explosion will host the Bluegrass Warhorses on Sunday March 16th at the Erie Insurance Arena with kickoff scheduled for 2pm.
