
Erie Explosion Playmaker Moe Williams Headed to AFL

(Erie,PA)- Erie Explosion wide receiver Maurice Williams has been signed by the Portland Thunder of the Arena Football League. Williams was assigned to the Thunder on May 19th by the Arena Football League and is expected to join the franchise in advance of their May 30th game against the San Jose Sabercats. Williams returns to the Arena Football League after spending the last five weeks with the Erie Explosion where he tallied (35) receptions for (472) yards and (13) touchdowns. Williams was currently leading the Explosion in touchdowns and yards per game (94.4).

We take pride in seeing our players advance their careers and we thank Moe for his efforts with the Erie Explosion this season and wish him nothing but success in Portland," commented Erie Explosion Head Coach Shawn Liotta.
Williams has previously spent time in the Arena Football League and the National Football League prior to spending the past five games with the Erie Explosion of the PIFL. Williams has experience in the Arena Football League with the Cleveland Gladiators, Orlando Predators, Jacksonville Sharks, Los Angeles Kiss, and was most recently signed with the Las Vegas Outlaws in 2015. A threat to score any time he touches the football, Williams has totaled 77 receptions for 1,036 yards, and 21 touchdowns during his AFL Career. An accomplished kick returner, Williams accumulated 888 yards on 52 returns with two touchdowns while averaging (17.1) yards per return. Williams has generated interest from several NFL teams and was signed to the Training Camp roster of the Indianapolis Colts in 2013. Williams earned a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh following a standout prep career at Strong Vincent High School. Following his senior season of high school Williams was regarded as one of the top prospects in the nation as he earned Super Prep All-American honors and was named to the AP Class AAA All-State Team.
The Erie Explosion are currently on a bye week and will return to action on Saturday May 30th when they travel to Columbus, Georgia to take on the first place Columbus Lions. The Explosion return home for their final home game of the 2015 season on Saturday June 6thwhen they host the Alabama Hammers with kickoff scheduled for 7:00pm.
