Explosion Announce Affiliation with New Indoor Football Alliance
August 26, 2015 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Erie Explosion News Release
The Erie Explosion, 2-time CIFL Champions in 2013 and 14, are proud to announce their affiliation with the new Indoor Football Alliance (IFA). The IFA will consist of two leagues, the CIFL and Supreme Indoor Football. The two leagues will play their respective league schedules and compete for a National Championship of Indoor Football with both leagues being represented. On top of the National Championship game, the IFA will concentrate heavily on player development, state of the art video technology sharing and many other progressive development tools for each organization.
The Explosion will get to renew some of its famed rivalries' that Erie fans have come to love over the years at the Erie Insurance Arena. "I look forward to our franchise competing in the Indoor Football Alliance in 2016 and am excited about the direction of the IFA," states long-time Explosion Head Coach Shawn Liotta. "The IFA's focus is on providing a top quality on-field product while affording its member franchises a vehicle to be successful off the field with regional travel, combined services, and the leadership of individuals who have a wealth of experience in professional indoor football. Our fans will enjoy the excitement of our renewed rivalries with the Saginaw Sting and Marion Blue Racers," Liotta continues. "We have enjoyed some tremendous contests with the Sting and the Blue Racers during our previous tenure in the CIFL and I expect those battles to instantly resume next season. I know both franchises will be looking for revenge after we defeated each of them for a League Championship in 2013 and 2014. I am excited to begin the process of assembling a team that will bring a Championship back to the City of Erie in 2016."
With the formation of the IFA, both leagues will be looking to not only add value to their franchises, but have more of a community impact. With new community initiatives and renewed, intense rivalries, plus the opportunity at a National Championship, the Explosion will be looking to make an impact like never before. "We understand our value in the community and the positive effect we can have on the youth of Erie. As much as we enjoy providing family affordable professional indoor football to Erie, we also want to help and partner with the community assets to be a valuable part of everyday life in Erie, " says Erie Explosion owner Bill Stafford. " We may have brought two professional championships to Erie already, but that's just the beginning. Being a part of the CIFL and IFA is the start of some exciting announcements to make in the near future," states Stafford.
