Indy Fuel Release 2016-17 Schedule

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks and the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, released their 2016-17 regular season schedule Thursday afternoon. The club begins their third year of competition on Friday, October 14 against the Cincinnati Cyclones at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

The Fuel head into year three looking to build upon a 32-36-4-0 record from 2015-16, searching for the franchise's first Kelly Cup Playoff berth. Once again, Indy will play a 72-game schedule with 36 games coming at Indiana Farmers Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

After an ultra-competitive race for the Midwest Division crown last season, the Fuel will play 32 games against divisional foes in 2016-17. Indy will play 12 games against the Cyclones (6 home, 6 road), 11 against the Quad City Mallards (7 home, 4 road) and nine against the Fort Wayne Komets (5 home, 4 road). The Fuel play a total of 50 games within the Western Conference, meeting the Central Division 14 times and the West Division for four matchups.

Other highlights of the Fuel's schedule include a three-game visit to the Alaska Aces on Nov. 9-12, their first trip to Canada on Dec. 7 against the Brampton Beast, a home New Year's Day showdown against the Brampton and a season-long six-game homestand from Jan. 20-29. Indy wraps up the campaign with four straight in the Circle City from April 1-7, followed by the 2016-17 season finale in Toledo on April 8.

Weekends will be a busy time for Indy, with 61 of the team's 72 games landing on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Nine of the Fuel's 13 Sunday games will be in Indianapolis. Indy will play three games in three nights a total of 13 times this season, four of which take place entirely on home ice. The busiest stretch on for the Fuel in 2016-17 comes during a stretch of five games in six nights from Dec. 27 to Jan. 1.

Indy will face off against a few unfamiliar foes over the upcoming season. Teams appearing on the 2016-17 schedule that the Fuel did not meet in 2015-16 include the Allen Americans (2 home, 4 road), Atlanta Gladiators (2 home), Greenville Swamp Rabbits (2 road), Reading Royals (2 road) and the Tulsa Oilers (2 home, 2 road). The Oilers are the only team on the schedule which Indy has yet to encounter in their ECHL tenure.

Start times at Indiana Farmers Coliseum remained unchanged from the Fuel's first two seasons; with weekday games (Monday-Thursday) beginning at 7:05 p.m. ET, Friday and Saturday games starting at 7:35 p.m. ET, and Sunday contests slated for a 3:05 p.m. ET matinee start.
