INDIANAPOLIS (Tuesday, August 26, 2014) - Indy Eleven Professional Soccer bolstered its attacking corps today with the signing of Brazilian forward Jhulliam to the team's roster. Per club policy, details of the signing will not be disclosed. The 26-year-old striker is expected to join Indy Eleven early next week and is anticipated to be available for selection in time for the team's contest at the Atlanta Silverbacks next Saturday, Sept. 6.
"The signing of Jhulliam gives our squad another exciting, experienced attacking presence that Indy Eleven fans will look forward to watching," said Indy Eleven President/General Manager Peter Wilt. "I want to thank Jhulliam for coming to Indiana and let our fans know the search for additional reinforcements to the roster will continue."
Jhulliam, whose full name is Jhulliam Bonfim Santos Pires, comes to Indiana's Team from FC Sheriff Tiraspol, the reigning champion of the Moldovan Divizia Nationala (First Division). Jhulliam bagged 12 goals in 16 regular season appearances during Sheriff's 2013/14 season. In addition, he scored one goal in five appearances during UEFA Europa League play and also made an appearance in Sheriff's UEFA Champions League Qualifying Round series against Dinamo Zagreb.
"I appreciate the invitation by Indy Eleven and the chance to play in a country and a league that has been growing very much in the world of football," said Jhulliam. "I had a conversation with Kleberson about the club, the fans and the city that helped a lot in my decision. I'm coming to help the club achieve its goals and look forward to joining my new teammates."
Prior to his most recent campaign with FC Sheriff, Jhulliam spent the entirety of his budding career in his native Brazil. He began at the age of 18 with three seasons at Galicia, which would send him on loan to numerous clubs - with Sao Cristovao (2009), Pocoes (2009), Bahia (2010), Madre de Deus (2010) and Juazeiro (2011). Jhulliam would go on to sign with Coruripe (2012-13) and Cha Grande (2013), the latter sending him on loan to Corinthians Alagoano (2013) before his move overseas to Moldova.
"Jhulliam brings a new dimension to our attacking options," said Indy Eleven Director of Soccer Operations and Head Coach Juergen Sommer. "He's a player with a lot of pace that can really stretch the opposition's backline, but also relishes taking on defenders with the ball. We look forward to welcoming Jhulliam to the squad and seeing what he's capable of for the rest of the Fall Season."
Indy Eleven will return to action this Saturday, August 30, when it welcomes the defending NASL Soccer Bowl champion New York Cosmos for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff at IUPUI's Carroll Stadium. Tickets for the contest, which will include Indy Eleven's "Indiana Soccer Heritage Night" festivities, remain available and can be purchased at IndyEleven.com or over the phone at 317-685-1100 during regular business hours through Friday.
