
Scorpions Midfielder Richard Menjivar to Play in Copa Centroamericana with El Salvador

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Tuesday, August 26, 2014) - San Antonio Scorpions midfielder Richard Menjivar has been called in for international duty by El Salvador for the upcoming Copa Centroamericana. Menjivar will join his Salvadoran teammates after the Scorpions' match against Ft. Lauderdale on Friday, August 29.
This will be the thirteenth edition of the tournament that crowns the champion of Central America and La Azul y Blanco will open group play against Guatemala on September 3 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Four days later, Menjivar and EL Salvador will be back in Texas at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas to face Belize.
"Playing for your country is one of the highest honors you can achieve as an athlete, and Richie's consistent, influential role within his national team is reflective of his professionalism, passion and dedication to the game," said Head Coach Alen Marcina. "As always, it's a privilege to have such a fantastic role model represent the Scorpions and Soccer For a Cause on an international level."
Menjivar has been capped 12 times in his career by El Salvador's senior side and he scored one international goal in four appearances with the U-23 team . Menjivar's most recent appearances for his country were earlier this year when El Salvador played Spain and Cote d'Ivoire in friendlies ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
