Scorpions Part Ways with Head Coach Alen Marcina
November 1, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
San Antonio Scorpions News Release
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Sunday, November 1, 2015) - Alen Marcina will not return as head coach of the San Antonio Scorpions for the 2016 season, team president and general manager Howard Cornfield announced today.
"I'd like to thank Alen for his tremendous contributions to the Scorpions," said Cornfield. "He has been with the club since we launched in 2012 and as head coach, he led us to a championship in 2014. However, we just completed a very disappointing season and we feel a fresh start is needed for us to give our fans the winning soccer they expect and deserve. The organization wishes Alen all the best in his future endeavors."
Marcina was the lead assistant under head coach Tim Hankinson for San Antonio's inaugural 2012 North American Soccer League (NASL) campaign and the first half of the 2013 season. He took over for Hankinson with the title of interim coach on August 28, 2013. Marcina was named the full-time head coach in November 2013 and in 2014, he led the Scorpions to the NASL Championship.
Marcina's overall regular season record with the Scorpions was 26-26-15(W-L-D) and he was 2-0 in the postseason. The Scorpions finished the 2015 season with a record of 7-13-10 (W-L-D), which placed the team at the bottom of the NASL's combined standings.
"We have already started our search for the next head coach of the San Antonio Scorpions and I anticipate we will have an announcement in the near future," added Cornfield.
