Buffalo Bisons News Release
The Cleveland Indians today announced their annual Minor League Pitcher and Player of the Year awards. Aaron Laffey was named the Bob Feller winner as the organization's top minor league pitcher while infielder Asdrubal Cabrera was given the Lou Boudreau Award as the system's top minor league position player.
Both recipients spent time with the Bisons in 2007.
Laffey was 9-3 with a 3.08ERA in 16 games with the Bisons in 2007 and was named the team's Warren Spahn Most Valuable Pitcher. After starting his Triple-A career 0-3 in May, he became the first Bisons pitcher to win nine consecutive decisions in the Modern Era. Laffey was also the first pitcher in the Modern Era to win six games in a single month as he went 6-0 with a 0.87ERA in June. He finished T1st on the team in wins (9) and quality starts (10) and third in strikeouts (75).
Overall in 2007, Laffey was 17-6 with a 3.34 ERA in 31 games (30 starts) between Double-A Akron, the Bisons and the Cleveland Indians.
Cabrera played in nine games with the Bisons in 2007 and hit .316 (12-38) with three RBI and two stolen bases. The Eastern League All-Star hit .310 (114-368) in 96 games with Akron before his time with Buffalo in early August. He moved on to the Indians where he hit .283 (45-159) with three home runs and seven RBI in 45 games to close out the regular season.
Cabrera was acquired by the Indians in a trade with the Seattle Mariners on June 30, 2006. He then played 52 games with Buffalo that season and hit .263 (50-190) with one home run, 14RBI and five stolen bases.
