Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Indians donated over $315,000 to charitable organizations in 2007. The total total represents an increase of over $100,000 from the previous year.
"The Indians had an excellent year, and it's appropriate that we continue to give back to the local community," Tribe Vice President & General Manager Cal Burleson says. "Our charitable partners have provided us with many outstanding opportunities to do that, and we appreciate how those partnerships have enabled us to make meaningful contributions to worthy causes throughout central Indiana."
The Indians filled $130,753 worth of ticket donation requests in 2007. The total includes $44,460 through the newly-created "Tickets for Troops" program, $24,372 through the "Pinch-Hitter" program and another $9,000 to Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) students on "Baseball in Education" days at Victory Field.
The "Tickets for Troops" program gives fans an opportunity to donate tickets to central Indiana soldiers and the Tribe matches every ticket donated. The "Pinch-Hitter" program provides individuals and corporations with an opportunity to donate unused seats to charitable organizations such as hospitals, senior-citizen groups and youth programs.
The Indians, in conjunction with ARAMARK Sports & Entertainment, also helped 17 groups raise $114,676 through efforts at the Victory Field concession stands.
In addition, the organization collected over $14,000 for the Mike Schneider Family Memorial Fund by hosting a postseason golf outing at the River Glen Country Club.
The Indians say "thank you" to AIG, Conseco, Clarian Health, Great Clips, Jonathan Byrd's Cafeteria, Kenney Outdoor Solutions, Sammy L. Davis Chapter VVA295, Ski Landscape and St. Vincent Sports Medicine for their generous support during the 2007 campaign.
The Tribe will continue to give back during the 2008 season. For more on community-related opportunities, contact Ryan Bowman at 317-269-3542 ext. 300 or rbowman@IndyIndians.com.
