Indians Drop Game One to AquaSox 8-5
September 9, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA - The Everett AquaSox dominated the Indians during the regular season, and thanks to some help from Spokane's defense, that trend continued tonight in the first game of the playoffs. Everett took advantage of six errors from the Indians on their way to an 8-5 win in front of 2,269 fans at Avista Stadium for Game One of the TicketsWest Northwest League Playoffs presented by TicketsWest, 93.7 The Mountain, and SportsRadio 1510 KGA Northwest Sports Talk.
Spokane got on the board early with an RBI fielder's choice from Luis Terrero in the first against Everett starter Brandon Miller. The AquaSox answered with three runs in the third - and threatened to run away with the game with another two in the fourth - before Charles Leblanc delivered a three-run blast in the bottom of the fifth to bring the Indians within a run.
Everett then put the game out of reach with three runs in the eighth on a hit-by-pitch and two errors from Blaine Prescott. Spokane's second baseman redeemed himself with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame but that was all the Indians could manage against the Sox bullpen.
Leody Taveras, Carlos Garay, and Prescott each had two base knocks while Anderson Tejeda, Seth Spivey, Chad Smith, Darius Day, and Leblanc all notched one hit in the loss.
The Indians travel to Safeco Field tomorrow to face off against the Everett AquaSox for Game Two of the TicketsWest Northwest League Playoffs presented by TicketsWest, 93.7 The Mountain, and SportsRadio 1510 KGA Northwest Sports Talk.
