Indians Drop Extra-Inning Heartbreaker to Hawks 10-9

August 6, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA -The Hawks had to be feeling good about themselves. Leading the Indians 9-3 in the top of the sixth inning, Boise was just 12 outs away from leaving Spokane in sole possession of first place in the Northwest League Eastern Division. Not so fast. The Indians rallied for one run in the bottom of that frame and five more in the seventh to overcome what seemed like an insurmountable deficit. A night that was once wrought with frustration and disappointment seemed headed for an unlikely happy ending.

Spokane's magic ran out in extra innings though, as Boise scored in the top of the eleventh and held on in the bottom of the inning for a 10-9 win over the Indians in front of 4,093 fans at Avista Stadium for Red Out Night presented Premera Blue Cross, 101.1 Rock "˜N' Roll's Greatest Hits, and 1050 The Key.

The Hawks scored once in the second and third innings to take an early 2-0 advantage but Patrick Cantwell's three-run homer over the Dairy Queen sign in the bottom of the third pulled Spokane ahead by one. Boise answered quickly, scoring four times in the top of fourth off Indians starter Abel De Los Santos to regain the lead.

Boise would cling to their lead until the seventh inning, when a furious Indians rally that was started with a two-run triple by Gabriel Roa and capped off by an RBI groundout from Ryan Rua tied the game. Neither team scored in the eighth, ninth or tenth innings but burly Boise slugger Dan Vogelbach drilled a home run off Alec Asher (1-3) to provide the game's winning run.

Second baseman Cam Schiller had three hits while Roa, Cantwell, and Rua each chipped in a pair of base knocks in the loss.

The Indians take off an a five-game road trip to Salem-Keizer before returning to Spokane on Saturday, August 11th for Fireworks Night presented by The Black Book, 103.1 KCDA, and The Splash.
