Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians wrapped up the home portion of their 2011 schedule Saturday night in front of a near-capacity crowd of 13,555. The game was a "must win" for the Tribe as they were fighting for the International League Wild Card playoff spot. While the Indians thrilled the crowd with an 8-7 win over the division-rival Louisville Bats, the Tribe was eliminated from playoff contention when the Lehigh Valley IronPigs defeated the Buffalo Bisons 3-0 tonight.
For the season, the Indians drew 580,082 fans to Victory Field over 71 home dates played for an average of 8,170 fans per game. The total attendance represents an increase over the 569,969 fans who attended Indians games in 2010. This is the fourth time in five seasons the Indians have posted an attendance increase from one season to the next.
Over a 28-game stretch from June 3 to August 6, the Indians averaged more than 10,000 fans per game. The 580,082 total represents the Indians' third best season attendance since 2001. Earlier this season, the Indians welcomed the nine millionth fan to attend an Indians game at Victory Field since the ballpark opened on July 11, 1996.
The Indians will finish their 2011 season with back-to-back games in Louisville Sunday and Monday. Entering Sunday's game, the Tribe own a 75-67 record and are guaranteed to finish the season with a winning record for the first time since 2006.
