Boise Hawks News Release
The Boise Hawks (26-27, 5-10) fell to the Spokane Indians (24-29, 8-7) by a final score of 14-7 on Friday night. Boise gave up 19 hits for the game despite Terrin Vavra being a double shy of the cycle. He finishes with a 3-5, two runs scored, three RBI night.
For the second day in a row, the Spokane Indians scored in the first inning. Mike Nikorak, Boise's starter, making his second start since returning from Tommy John surgery that sidelined him for all of 2016, allowed a run. After Hasuan Viera walked, Curtis Terry doubled down the right-field line scoring Viera and the Indians had an early 1-0 lead.
Nikorak went just one inning as he slowly returns from his injury. In the bottom of the 1st inning, Cade Harris led it off with a double and Vavra got an RBI-single to tie it up at one.
Pearson McMahan came into the game for Boise in the 2nd inning and allowed a two-run home run for Jonah McReynolds. The home run gave the Indians a 3-1 advantage.
The Hawks responded in the bottom of the third. With two outs and Hidekel Gonzalez on second-base, after he doubled earlier in the inning, Vavra hit a two-run home run to tie the game at three after the first three innings.
Spokane added two more runs off McMahan in the 5th inning. An RBI-double for Curtis Terry and an Arias single made it 5-3 Spokane. In the 6th frame, the Indians got four runs and it was Jax Biggers with a two-RBI single. The Indians had a 9-3 advantage.
Boise scored twice in the 6th though. A sacrifice fly for Luke Morgan and an RBI single for Aubrey McCarty made it 9-5. After Spokane added a run in the top of the 8th making it 10-5, the Hawks came back with two runs in the home-half. Willie MacIver hit a home run as part of a two run inning for the Hawks and Boise was down 10-7.
But Spokane got four runs in the top of the 9th inning, as it was headlined by a Martinez two-RBI triple and Spokane would roll to a 14-5 victory.
The Hawks will return tomorrow for Game #3 of the five-game series with the Spokane Indians. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. MT. Tomorrow night will be the Gardening Knee Protector Giveaway for the first 1,000 fans through the gate. Get your tickets at BoiseHawks.com or call 208-322-5000.
