Indians Announce 2009 Television Schedule

April 2, 2009 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Indians will have eight regular-season games televised on WHMB-TV 40 in 2009. The schedule begins on April 9 as the Tribe host the Toledo Mud Hens in the season opener.

"We are very pleased to have this schedule of games on WHMB TV-40," Indians Vice President & General Manager Cal Burleson says. "These telecasts enable us to project Indians Baseball at Victory Field to an audience of over 1.1 million homes in Indiana. The family-oriented nature of other programming on WHMB also fits well with our brand and image."

Howard Kellman, who is in his 34th year as radio play-by-play "Voice of the Tribe," will lead all eight WHMB home telecasts. Indiana's 2002 Sportscaster of the Year has called IHSAA football and basketball games on TV 40 since 1990-91. He has also served as the lead announcer for ESPN's coverage of the past three Bricktown Showdowns.

Brian Dorsett, who played for the Indians in 1993 and 1995, will again serve as the analyst on home telecasts in 2009. The Indiana State University graduate enjoyed Major League time with the Cleveland Indians (1987), California Angels (1988), New York Yankees (1989-90), San Diego Padres (1991), Cincinnati Reds (1993-94) and Chicago Cubs (1996). He batted .224 with nine home runs and 51 RBI in 163 big league contests.

For Comcast subscribers WHMB-TV 40 is carried on channel 9, while Bright House carries WHMB on channel 22. WHMB is also on channel 8457 on Dish Network. Fans who subscribe to cable TV should check with their local provider for the WHMB channel listing in their area. This will be the tenth consecutive season that select Tribe games will be shown on the Central Indiana station.

"WHMB is once again excited about televising Indianapolis Indians games during the 2009 season," TV 40 Sports Director Dennis Kasey says. "The Indians provide one of the best opportunities for a family to have a fun outing together during the spring and summer. The Indians fit in perfectly with WHMB's family-oriented programming and philosophy. There is no franchise better than the Indianapolis Indians or ballpark better than Victory Field."

The Indians open the 2009 season on Thursday, April 9 at Victory Field against their division rivals the Toledo Mud Hens. Season and individual game tickets are on sale now at www.IndyIndians.com or by calling the Victory Field Box at 317-269-3545.
