
Indiana clips Xplosion at end, 110-106

PITTSBURGH, December 11, 2006 - Janerio Spurlock exploded for a game-high 29 points to help Pittsburgh (0-5) rally from a 10-point fouth quarter deficit, but Indiana (3-3) forced several key turnovers in the final minute and iced the game connecting on 5-6 free throws to lift the AlleyCats to a 110-106 victory in Continental Basketball Association action at Mellon Arena.
Trailing by seven, 105-98, with 2:54 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Xplosion charged back. Spurlock converted a three-point play and then moments later Wayne Copeland drilled a three-pointer from the top o the arc to cut the lead down to one.
Spurlock then put the Xplosion on top, 106-105, with a strong take to the hole at te 1:03 mark. Indiana's Will Caudle followed with a pair of charity tosses to put the Alley Cats back on top. Pittsburgh then missed on a look by Kvin Pittsnogle and Indy iced the game with free throws.
Pittsnogle fiished with 21 points and Shawn Hawkins added 20. Marvin Phillips had a double-double finishing with 16 points and 10 boards. Carl Edwards had 27 points to lead Indiana. Shaun Fountain and DeAndre Walker had 25 points apiece.
The Xplosion built up a 10 point first quarter lead, winning the period and secuing their lone point, 39-29. The AlleyCats won the second quarter, 27-19, and were in striking distance at intermision, 58-56. Indy went on top in the third quarter and edged out the Black and Gold in the final period, 28-27, to take six of seven quarter points.
Pittsburgh returns to the floor on Monday, December 18 against Minot at Mellon Arena.
