Galen Young Named CBA Player of the Week

Albany, NY (December 12, 2006) - The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Yakama Sun Kings forward Galen Young has been named the CBA Player of the Week for the period of December 1 through December 10, 2006. Young picks up his first CBA Player-of-the-Week honors.
In five games with the Sun Kings, Young averaged 18.4 points per game, 12.4 rebounds per game, and 8.2 assists per game. Young leads the CBA in total rebounds (62), offensive rebounds (21), and assists (41). These efforts pushed the Sun Kings to a 4-1 record, earning them first place in the CBA's National Conference. The Sun Kings lead the CBA with a 5.1 quarter-point average during the early part of the CBA's 61st season.
Young's high point of the past week was the achievement of triple-doubles in two consecutive games. On December 8, Galen Young scored 17 points on 5-16 shooting. He also pulled down 16 rebounds, and dished out 13 assists in a 101-96 (5-2) loss to Albany. Two days later, Young continued his productive streak, when he scored 22 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists to help Yakama defeat Albany, 110-107 (5.5-1.5). With that effort, Young became the first CBA player in six years to notch triple-doubles in two consecutive games; the last player to achieve that mark was former Sun King David Vanderpool, who did so on March 24 and 25, 2000. Young's consecutive triple-doubles also give him the single-game lead in both rebounds and assists, as the CBA commences its 61st consecutive season.
This is the 6'6" forward's fourth season in the league; Young, a graduate of UNC-Charlotte (1999), previously played in the CBA with the Grand Rapids Hoops (1999-00), and the Gary Steelheads (2002-04). Young was a second-round draft pick of the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1999 NBA draft.
