
In 5-4 Victory, Jackals Take First Game of Series

After sweeping the Dominican Republic, the New Jersey Jackals hit the road on Friday night to take on the Trois-Rivieres Aigles for the first time this season.
The Jackals won a close contest 5-4 to extend its winning streak to a season high four games.
In the top of the first, first baseman Dean Green hit his sixth home run of the year, a solo shot to make it 1-0, New Jersey.
Aigles short stop Sam Dexter tied the game at one in the bottom of the second with an RBI single to score right fielder Michael Sauchy.
Designated hitter Danny Canela connected for his fourth home run on the year in the top of the fourth, a two run shot to make the game 3-1, Jackals.
Sauchy cut the lead to one in the bottom half of the frame after hitting a solo home run for his second of the year.
New Jersey shortstop Carlos Triunfel scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth to push the Jackals advantage to 4-2.
Then, in the bottom of the inning, right fielder Alberth Martinez delivered an RBI single for Trois-Rivieres to once again cut the lead to one at 4-3.
Triunfel scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh for the second time in the game.
That would prove to be a major insurance run for the Jackals.
Former Jackal third baseman Taylor Brennan hit his league leading 12th home run of the year in the bottom of the seventh.
For the third time in the game, the Aigles cut the lead to one.
Jackals reliever Vin Mazzaro stepped up in a big way on Friday.
Mazzaro earned his third save of the season after going two and a third shut out innings while allowing just one hit and striking out four to maintain the one run lead.
The Jackals now move to .500 on the season with a 13-13 record.
Game two in the series is set for June 16 at 7:05 P.M.
