Sacramento Mountain Lions News Release
SACRAMENTO - This Friday, October 15, the Sacramento Mountain Lions expect thousands of fans in attendance at their second home game of the season. The Mountain Lions first home game played to a sold out crowd at Sac State's Hornet Stadium.
Following the success of the first game and the sheer number of vehicles involved, the Mountain Lions have expanded their traffic control efforts in order to avoid backups and delays for fans and those using nearby thoroughfares. "We saw incredible numbers for game 1 and faced some traffic challenges," notes Joe Wagoner, team Director of Business Management. "For the second game, we've addressed all of the traffic concerns with additional staffing, signage and planning, we expect a much cleaner flow of traffic".
Fans are encouraged to arrive early to avoid traffic congestion. Open tailgating, live performance by hip-hop artist Flo Rida and other festivities are part of the FanFest activities provided for pre-game entertainment.
Game traffic is expected to affect East Sacramento and College areas throughout the evening, with peak times at FanFest start (5:00pm), game kickoff (8:00pm) and departure (approx. 11:00pm). Residents of surrounding areas and those who habitually use the Howe Ave. exit, J street, College Town and Folsom Blvd should be aware of potential slowing.
Fans driving to the stadium will enter all lots from College Town Drive. Signage and staff have been added to the J Street entrance of the university, providing another access point. Driving directions from all major freeways are listed below. Attendants will be on hand to guide fans to the appropriate lots once they arrive.
To limit traffic congestion, attendees are encouraged to carpool, or utilize alternate modes of transportation including Regional Transit and bicycle. A secure bike parking lot will be available. Various light-rail and bus routes drop off at points on campus, though service may end prior to game finish. Trip planning resources are available at http://infoweb.sacrt.com/. The Mountain Lions have also arranged cab service to pick up after the game, as well as an organized Designated Driver program (details available in-stadium).
Tailgating is permitted throughout Sac State parking lots, with the exception of multi-level parking structures. Parties wishing to take up multiple parking spots during tailgating must purchase the desired number of spaces. Groups wishing to park together should arrive at the same time to assure they are placed together.
Tailgating rules and regulations are available at SacMountainLions.com.
