Miami, FL - Looking to build community-based team for its ABA franchise, the Imperiali Organization has appointed Art "Pilin" Alvarez as the Miami ABA team President, and received an ownership position in the team.

Art "Pilin" Alvarez has been a success at just about everything he has tried, from business to sports.

As a basketball player, he was the first Cuban to earn first-team all-state, doing so as a guard for Miami's LaSalle High School.

As a coach, he helped lead Miami Christian to two state titles, setting Florida's single-season record for wins (38) in the process.

But it is as a mentor to young players that Alvarez has truly made his mark.

"Pilin is devoted to helping his kids, providing them opportunities and guidance," said Frank Martin, who coached Miami High to three state titles before becoming a college assistant at Northeastern and now Cincinnati.

The Miami ABA basketball team looks to unveil its new team name and logo in the next coming weeks.

A representative of the Imperiali Organization, Dan Mangru, also commented on the appointment.

"Art Alvarez brings tremendous value to the franchise in Miami. He is someone that knows the people of the community and will understand how to create Miami's hometown ABA team. We expect a winning tradition for our Miami ABA team to go along with the Palm Beach Imperials. It should be an exciting season."

The Imperiali Organization is also the majority owner of the Palm Beach Imperials (www.palmbeachimperials.com), one of the ABA's premier franchises for the upcoming 2006-2007 season.
