Ike the Spike Moves on to Final Four of MiLB Mascot Mania

(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - Move over, VCU. Step aside, Villanova. There's a new Cinderella story in bracket lore as State College Spikes mascot Ike the Spike has clinched a berth in the Final 4 of the MiLB.com Mascot Mania competition.

Thanks to the fans' votes, Ike downed Nutzy from the Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels in the quarterfinal round of the bracket. The dynamic deer now faces off against Phinley from the Advanced-A Clearwater Threshers with a spot in the championship match on the line.

Voting is now open for the semifinal matchup, and will run until midnight ET on Thursday, June 14 at www.milb.com/mascotmania. All fans can vote up to 25 times daily, and each vote equals an entry into the MiLB.com Mascot Mania Sweepstakes for a chance to win a variety of prizes, including subscriptions to MLB.TV and MiLB.TV, in addition to mascot-themed prize packs.

Spikes fans should also keep their eyes on State CollegeSpikes.com later today for another video from Ike encouraging fans to help him blow Phinley out of the water.

Ike is the lone mascot from a Short-Season Single-A team to remain in the bracket-style Mascot Mania contest. Thus far, the Spikes mascot has defeated Rascal from the Harrisburg Senators, the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor from the Reading Phillies, Paws from the Pawtucket Red Sox, and Nutzy on his road to the Final Four.

The Spikes begin the 2012 home slate at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park with the Home Opener against the Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies) on Tuesday, June 19 at 7:05 p.m.

The Home Opener will mark the first of five home dates in six days as part of Spikes Opening Week from June 19-24. Single-game tickets for Opening Week, as well as all 38 Spikes regular season home games, are currently on sale through the Spikes Box Office by calling (814) 272-1711 or by visiting in person weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fans can also buy and print single-game tickets at StateCollegeSpikes.com.
