
IIHF World Championships Features 26 Former ECHL Players, Four Former Blades

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL is represented by 26 players and two coaches in the 2011 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships which begin Friday, April 29 in Kosice and Bratislava, Slovakia.
Included in that list are four former Everblade players. Defenseman Philippe Lakos who skated in four games with the Everblades in 2001-02 is on the roster for Austria, Forward Laurent Meunier who posted 51 points in 68 games in 2002-03 will represent France and defenseman Kevin Lavellee who played in 12 games with the Blades in 2005-06 will skate for Germany in the tournament.
Rounding out the former Everblade players is defenseman Greg Kuznik, who will skate for Slovenia, and played for Florida during the team's first two years of existence, totaling 19 points in 59 games from 1998-00.
Former ECHL player and coach Scott Gordon is the head coach of the United States team for the second consecutive season, while former ECHL coach Barry Smith is serving as an assistant coach for Team USA.
There is a former ECHL player on 13 of the 16 teams led by Latvia with four players. Germany, Norway and Slovakia each have three former ECHL players on their rosters.
Andrei Mezin of Belarus is making his eighth appearance in the World Championships while Herbert Vasilijevs of Latvia is playing in his seventh consecutive tournament.
