Alaska Aces News Release
Chris Langkow ended Game Two of the Western Conference Finals with his first career post-season goal 2:25 into overtime to give the Aces a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series from Sullivan Arena on Thursday Night. The series now heads to Victoria for Game Three on Saturday at 6:05pm AKT. The Aces controlled the majority of the opening period, largely due to four power play chances in the opening period. The Aces scored early in the frame on a two-man advantage when Scott Howes tallied his fourth of the playoffs at 4:11. The Aces continued to pepper the net, but could not add to their lead, and took the 1-0 lead into the intermission break.
The Salmon Kings turned things around in the middle period thanks to a pair of goals by defenseman. Derick Martin scored on a one-timer at 4:44 to even the score, and then Ryan Turek converted a rebound at 17:50 during a four-on-four, giving Victoria a 2-1 lead, and handing the Aces their first deficit of the post-season. Victoria outshot Alaska 9-6 in the frame.
The Aces erased the deficit in the third period when Bryan Miller scored on a wrist shot from the slot at 8:13 to tie the game. Alaska then reclaimed the lead when Howes fed Brian Swanson back door at 11:56 to make it 3-2 Aces. Ryan MacMurchy sent the game to overtime with his short-side redirection that slipped past Gerald Coleman at 14:30, leveling the score at 3-3.
Langkow took a pass from Howes early in the extra session, and his shot bounced off of netminder David Shantz, then Victoria defenseman Geoff Waugh, and into the net, ending the contest and giving Alaska the victory.
Gerald Coleman (6-0) earned the win, making 23 saves on 26 shots. David Shantz (7-3) took the loss, making 24 saves on 28 shots. The Aces went 1-4 on the power play, while the Salmon Kings went 0-1. The Aces outshot the Salmon Kings 28-26 in the game.
