IFL Names Week Seventeen Vidswap.com Players of the Week
June 23, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
Richmond, VA: The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the Week Seventeen Vidswap.com Players of the Week. The final week of the season took place, allowing one final chance for players to earn the prestigious honor of being Vidswap.com player of the week. Each week the IFL selects three players, one from each phase of the game, offense, defense, and specials teams, whose play on the field stood out among the rest of the competition. The regular season closed out with ten tight contests in Week Seventeen, and the following players' performances earned them the honors of Vidswap.com Players of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week: WR Johnathon Ferguson, San Angelo Stampede Express
Looking to lock up the fourth seed for the Intense Conference, the San Angelo Stampede Express needed a big win over the Lonestar West champion Amarillo Venom. The Stampede Express pulled off the amazing 60-50 victory and earned themselves a home game for the first round of the playoffs. One of the stand-out performances propelling San Angelo to victory was the offensive explosion of WR Johnathon Ferguson. Ferguson burned the Venom with four TD grabs and 127 yards for the game on six catches. San Angelo and Ferguson will need to keep up the offensive output next week as they host the fifth seeded Fairbanks Grizzlies in the opening round of the playoffs.
Defensive Player of the Week: LB Mark Blackburn, Sioux Falls Storm
The Sioux Falls Storm were looking to sweep their Central West rivals, the Sioux City Bandits, in the final I-29 showdown of the 2010 season. The Central West champs were up to the task defeating the Bandits by a 78-36 final. The victory was an offensive and defensive showcase for the Storm. One of the most prominent performances was from LB Mark Blackburn. Black disrupted the Bandit backfield all game. He had 7.5 tackles, two sacks, broke up two passes, and even blocked a Sioux City extra point attempt. This type of shut down defense will be an advantage for the Storm who face another Central West rival come the first week of playoff action. The second seed Storm will host fifth seed Omaha.
Special Teams Player of the Week: KR BJ Hill, Green Bay Blizzard
In a first round playoff preview, the Green Bay Blizzard hosted the Chicago Slaughter. Chicago came into this game 2-0 versus the Central North champion Blizzard. Looking to avoid a season sweep and keep momentum coming into the first round of the playoffs, Green Bay needed a stand-out performance. They received one from KR BJ Hill. Green Bay defeated Chicago 55-30 in a victory that Hill definitely contributed to. The kick returner amassed two 45 yard kick returns for touchdowns that were a part of his 171 yards off of six returns. The Blizzard will hope for a repeat performance from BJ Hill next week as the two teams face off once more in the first round of the playoffs.
The IFL post season begins on Saturday June 26th. Four captivating playoff games will kick off the action on a highly anticipated post season. You can view live broadcasts of IFL games all season long at www.b2livetv.com.
