
2010 IFL Award Winners Announced

Richmond, VA: The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the winners of the "2010 IFL Awards". Winners spanned over eighteen prestigious categories. The following players, executives, coaches, and teams earned honors.
Franchise of the Year:
Richmond Revolution
The Revolution in their very first season earned the Franchise of the Year by being determined by their peers to be the overall best team this season. Categories to be considered for achieving this award consisted of attendance, sales, public relations, marketing, and performance on the field, community involvement, and best representation of the IFL.
Executive of the Year:
Darlene Jones, San Angelo Stampede Express
Darlene Jones was chosen as the IFL Executive of the Year by her peers. Darlene was voted on the premise that the management, guidance, and leadership she provides benefit not only San Angelo, but reflect positively on the entire IFL as well.
Coach of the Year:
Steve Criswell, Richmond Revolution
Taking the Revolution in their first year to a league best 13-1 record speaks volumes for Coach Criswell. He was chosen as the recipient for his performance helping his team both on and off the field.
League Most Valuable Player:
QB Bryan Randall, Richmond Revolution
The amazing efforts of rookie QB Bryan Randall paid off as fans voted online for Randall as the player who performed the best of all players in the league. Randall completed 197 of his 371 passing attempts for the season.
Averaging 145.2 yards per game, Randall threw for 2033 yards total with 58 touchdowns on the season. The mobile rookie QB also proved to be a rushing threat having 100 rushes on the season for 374 yards and twelve touchdowns.
Offensive Player of the Year:
QB Ben Sankey, Omaha Beef
From a selection of quarterbacks, running backs, offensive linemen, and receivers, QB Ben Sankey was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Year. Throughout the 2010 season, the Omaha Star QB completed 70% of his passes. He threw for 2772 total yards, averaging 198.2 yards per game. Sankey also delivered 63 touchdowns throughout the season while only being intercepted a total of twelve times all season.
Defensive Player of the Year:
DL John Fields, Kent Predators
In a grouping of linebackers, defensive linemen, and defensive backs, DL John Fields was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year for the 2010 season. Fields had 44 tackles for the year.
The defensive lineman also had 11.5 sacks on the season to go along with nine passes broken, one interception, and a forced fumble as well.
Special Teams Player of the Year:
KR Randy Kelly, Wichita Wild
Looking at the best player on special teams, KR Randy Kelly was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Year. The Wild kick returner returned 73 kick-offs for 1193 yards on the year, averaging 16.3 per return. Kelly also has a return for a touchdown to add to his accomplishments.
Offensive Rookie of the Year:
RB Derrick Ross, San Angelo Stampede Express
With a list of first year quarterbacks, running backs, offensive linemen, and receivers, RB Derrick Ross was selected as the Offensive Rookie of the Year. The rookie running back had 164 rushes on the year with 824 total yards. He averaged 58.9 yards a game and five yards on average per carry. Ross also ran in 26 touchdowns on the season. The first year running back also contributed to the passing game with 64 yards on eleven receptions and two TD receptions.
Defensive Rook of the Year:
LB Landon Jones, Colorado Ice
Selected as the overall best defensive rookie from a list that included linebackers, defensive linemen, and defensive backs, LB Landon Jones is the IFL 2010 Defensive rookie of the Year. Amassing 140 total tackles for the season. Jones also accounted for two sacks; two forced fumbles, and broke up five passes on the season.
Most Improved Player:
LB Maurice Simpkins, Green Bay Blizzard
The Most Improved Player Award is for the individual who improved their overall level of play from last season to this season. LB Maurice Simpkins won the award based off his performance as one of the top linebackers in the league, improving greatly upon his 2009 campaign. This year Simpkins had 126 total tackles. Simpkins also had five sacks on the year and one forced fumble. The LB had five interceptions for a total of 93 yards and returned two interceptions for touchdowns.
Simpkins was also responsible for breaking up three passes.
Adam Pringle Award:
Dixie Wooten, Wichita Wild
Every year the Adam Pringle Award is given to the recipient voted most dedicated to their community and who has proven to show the most outstanding service. This year Dixie Wooten's involvement and volunteer work in his community has helped him receive this recognition.
Community Relations Award:
La Crosse Spartans
The Community Relations Award is presented to the team that best exemplifies outstanding service and dedication to their community. The Spartans received this award based on their contributions to the La Crosse community including volunteer efforts, collecting toys during Christmas for needy children, and their "Stuff the Bus" event, which is large food drive effort in the community.
The Spartans Head coach Gilbert Brown also has the Gilbert Brown Foundation which provides funding for several worthy causes such as the "Make a Wish Foundation", high school scholarships, and "Camp Sunshine" for children with cancer.
Best Game Operations:
Omaha Beef
The Best Game Operations was awarded to Omaha with the basis of the Beef providing the best game presentation. This included half-time shows, giveaways, music, public address announcer, and on-field promotions.
Best Media Relations:
Richmond Revolution
Richmond earned this award by being the best at getting media involvement, writing press releases, hosting press conferences, and gaining significant coverage of their team.
Best Fan Base:
Chicago Slaughter
This award was based on Chicago's fan-base proving to be the most enthusiastic, having the most character and energy, and providing the most overall appreciation for their team.
Chicago is also the league leader in attendance, with the Slaughter averaging over 5,000 fans per game.
Best Mascot:
West Texas Roughnecks
The Best Mascot of the 2010 season goes to Digger of the West Texas Roughnecks. Voting was based on the quality of costume, reaction of the crowd to the mascot, and the best person inside the costume as well. Digger is a prairie dog who represents the oil fields of Texas and has been a fixture of the team since the beginning.
Best Dance Team:
Billings Outlaws
The Billings Outlaws' dance team earned the Best Dance Team Award based in providing the most talented and most attractive dance team. Uniforms, class, routines, and crowd interaction were also factors in deciding the award.
Best Team Website:
Bloomington Extreme
Bloomington won the Best Team Website Award on premise of having the best looking, most easily manageable, and best content provided by their website.
