
Idaho opens 2010-11 regular season with 5-0 win over Victoria

Boise, ID - In the opening night of 2010-11 ECHL season, the Victoria Salmon Kings took on the Idaho Steelheads at Qwest Arena in the first of a two-game set. The Salmon Kings started David Shantz in net, while the Steelheads countered with Tyler Beskorowany.
Idaho opened the scoring at 13:12 of the first period when Geoff Irwin scored on a rebound from the slot on the power play. The Steelheads banked their second power play goal of the period when John-Scott Dickson's initial shot was saved by Shantz, but Mark Derlago was right on the door step to bat the rebound out of mid-air into the net. Idaho took their 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Steelheads added to their lead at 7:13 of the second period when Kael Mouillierat skated down the right side, cut into the slot and beat Shantz with a shot glove side. Idaho extended their lead to 4-0 on the power play at 17:01 when Guillaume Monast spotted Marty Flichel from behind the net, and fed the Steelheads' captain on the hash marks who beat Shantz glove side into the net. The second period ended with the Steelheads ahead 4-0.
Idaho rounded out the scoring in the game with the lone tally of the period at the 17:58 mark when Michael Neal converted past Shantz off a two-on-one rush with Mouillierat. Steelheads 5 Salmon Kings 0.
Victoria went 0/3=00.0% on the power play, while Idaho was 3/6=50.0%. The Steelheads outshot the Salmon Kings 31-24.
The Salmon Kings finish off their two-game series against the Steelheads tomorrow night, before heading to Las Vegas next week for a two-game series versus the Wranglers on Friday, October 22nd, and Saturday, October 23rd.
