Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
The first ever Chukars exhibition game turned out to be an overwhelming success, as more than 1,200 fans showed up to see the American Legion Idaho Falls Bandits take on the Royals minor leaguers.
With all the ticket proceeds going to support the Legion Baseball program, the Kansas City Royals agreed to let their minor league team play in fundraiser. The 7-inning contest saw the Chukars hit off their own pitchers and vice versa, as the Bandits took at-bats against their own hurlers. The 6-2 Chukars win helped usher in the 2012 season for the for the short-season squad, and serve as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Bandits.
Highlights for the contest included a spectacular diving catch by Bandits second baseman Patrick Greene in right field to take away a hit, and a Willie Mays style, over-the-shoulder catch by Chukars center fielder Ethan Chapman to rob a teammate of extra bases.
The Chukars open their season on June 18th with a home game against the Orem Owlz. Single game tickets are now available on the team's website (www.ifchukars.com) or by calling or visiting the front office at 900 Jim Garchow Way. Season seats, BBQ picnics, group outings and 10 ticket bonus/box books are also available by calling the Chukar's front office at (208) 522-8363.
