
IceRays Win 5-4 in Ten Round Shootout

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The Corpus Christi IceRays erased a three goal deficit, only to win 5-4 in a shootout that went ten rounds ending their four game losing streak in front of 2,337 fans inside the American Bank Center.
New Mexico started the scoring just 5:41 into the game as Matthew Uvodich picked up the puck during a scrum in front of the net and slid it past goaltender Anthony Stolarz to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
The Mustangs struck again 11:58 into the game. Adam Chapie scooped up a rebound and backhanded it past Stolarz for his 12th goal of the year to increase New Mexico's lead to 2-0.
The second period did not start well for Corpus Christi as the Mustangs scored 48 seconds into the period to take a 3-0 lead.
However, the IceRays struck back 13:38 into the second period as Travis Maxwell scored his second goal of the year going top shelf to pull the IceRays within two goals making the score 3-1.
Maxwell scored again to bring Corpus Christi within one goal. Frank Misuraca took a shot from the point, Maxwell deflected it past goaltender Jake Stafford for his second goal of the game to make the score 3-2 in favor of New Mexico.
Corpus Christi started the third period trailing the Mustangs 3-2, however, Joe Ginley fed Danny Fetzer with a great pass while shorthanded to tie the game 3-3.
Joe Smereck put the IceRays in front momentarily 17:52 into the final period with a rocket from the left wing circle. New Mexico thought it didn't go in, however after a discussion, Smereck was awarded with the goal to give the IceRays a 4-3 lead.
New Mexico tied the game with 27 seconds left in the game on a power-play with the goalie pulled (6X4), Charles Baldwin scored his second of the night forcing overtime.
After no scoring in overtime, Corpus Christi had their first shoot-out of the year. It went to sudden death in the tenth round when Travis Maxwell scored the shoot-out game winning goal to give the IceRays a 5-4 win, snapping a four game losing streak.
The IceRays take on New Mexico tomorrow night from the American Bank Center. Puck drops at 7:05PM, coverage begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on ESPN Radio 1440AM.
