Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - Sometimes at a hockey game, the outcome is not the most important part of the night. And for the Corpus Christi IceRays along with over 5,500 fans at the 5th annual Pink in the Rink game, that was the case.
With the help of sponsors and the community, Corpus Christi was able to raise over $20,000 for the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen Foundation, and Janet's Pink Warriors who will participate in the Susan G Komen 3-Day Walk.
"Another successful event again this season," said IceRays general manager Pat Dunn. "It seems that it always keeps getting bigger. Win or lose, everybody is a winner on that night. But adding the crowd of 5,500 and the win makes it even sweeter."
The evening began with an exhibition game between the Corpus Christi Fire Department and ex-IceRays that drew thousands of fans into the American Bank Center with the first 1,000 fans receiving a pink IceRays jersey courtesy of Radiology & Imaging.
People from all over Southern Texas including San Antonio flocked to the festivities to honor those who are currently battling cancer or who have already been touched by it.
For nearly 100 years, the American Cancer Society (ACS) has worked relentlessly to save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Together with millions of our supporters worldwide, we're helping people stay well, helping people get well, finding cures, and fighting back against cancer.
"Susan G. Komen is proud to partner with the Corpus IceRays in the fight against breast cancer," said Elyse Alaniz, the Special Projects Manager for Susan G Komen San Antonio. "The "Pink in the Rink" game will make an incredible impact for the people who need our help the most."
The Susan G Komen foundation aims to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Susan G Komen San Antonio has invested more than $14 million in the fight.
The IceRays return home tonight to battle the Amarillo Bulls. Puck drops at 7:05PM, coverage begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on sportsjuice.com, ustream.com, the TuneIn Radio APP, and fasthockey.com.
