Amarillo Bulls News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The four game road trip didn't get off to a great start for the Amarillo Bulls.
Fifty two shots on goal were not enough as the Bulls dropped a 4-1 decision to the Corpus Christi IceRays. It was the Bulls second loss and second straight to Corpus Christi after winning eight straight.
The Bulls won't have long to think about the game as the two teams will play tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at 10 am in front of close to 5,000 school children.
The difference in the game was the third period when the IceRays scored a shorthanded goal just 1:56 into the stanza to break open a close 2-1 lead.
The game started out almost the way the last match-up between the two teams ended. Two fights in the first 5 seconds of the game that the Bulls were able to control. The Bulls had some early chances on goaltender Hayden Stewart but were unable to connect. It was the IceRays that drew first blood on a two-on-one break up the ice as a rebound was put in behind Colin Delia. Amarillo outshot the IceRays 12-9.
The IceRays raced out to a 2-0 lead early in the second period, but the Bulls didn't quit and kept pushing forward. Matt Sieckhaus got the Bulls on the board when his wrist shot beat goaltender Hayden Stewart. Joe Grabowski, who kept the play in at the blue line on two different occasions, notched an assist on the goal. Forward Dan McNamara also worked hard in the offensive zone to keep the play alive. The Bulls outshot the IceRays 18-8.
Just under two minutes into the third period, the IceRays took a 3-1 advantage on a shorthanded goal. Amarillo continued to push forward and wired 22 shots on goal but Hayden Stewart was able to stop them all.
There were nine power plays with neither team being able to score. The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Corpus Christi IceRays 52-28.
Fans can listen to the early start of the Bulls and IceRays on Wednesday morning beginning with The Warm Up Show at 9:45 am. Denis J. Puska has the play by play call at 10 am on CBS Sports Radio 1440 and www.amarillobulls.com. The game is also on PPV courtesy of Fast Hockey and a high speed internet connection is required.
