Port Huron Icehawks News Release
PORT HURON, MI - Port Huron Icehawks goalie Ryan Mior turned away all 19 shots he faced on Tuesday to blank the Bloomington PrairieThunder 4-0. The shutout was Mior's fourth of the season and a league high seventh for the Icehawks.
The win marked the Icehawks 13th victory over the PrairieThunder in 15 meetings this season. Port Huron improves to 41-20-6-3 with 91 points and regains sole possession of second place in the International Hockey League standings. With just six games remaining in the regular season, they now trail the first place Fort Wayne Komets by three points and lead the third place Muskegon Lumberjacks by two points. The standings could shift on Wednesday, however, as Fort Wayne and Muskegon play each other, but the Icehawks are idle.
The fifth place PrairieThunder, who were eliminated from playoff contention last weekend, extend their winless streak to nine games. They dip to 27-35-2-5 with 61 points.
The Icehawks scored two goals in each of the first two periods to take a 4-0 lead after the first 40 minutes of play. Nick Lindberg led the way for Port Huron with a goal and two assists. Ian Turner dished out a pair of helpers.
Kris Vernarsky kicked things off with a goal at 2:44 in the first period. He was assisted by Jason Chafe and Kerry Bowman. Lindberg notched his 28th goal of the season at 16:31 to make it a 2-0 game. Derek Patrosso and Turner were credited with the assists.
The Icehawks outshot the PrairieThunder 17-8 in the second frame and scored twice more to take a commanding lead. The second period goals were scored by Tab Lardner and Steve Rymsha. Lindberg assisted on both goals, while Turner and B.J. Adams also had assists.
The Icehawks held the advantage in shots on goal, 39-19. Bloomington goalie Jason Wolfe made 35 saves on 39 shots. Both teams were scoreless on the power play. Port Huron was 0-3 and Bloomington was 0-2.
The Icehawks travel to Kalamazoo on Friday to face the K-Wings before returning home to take on the Flint Generals on Saturday and Muskegon on Sunday. Saturday's game will feature a Labatt Blue Jersey Auction. On Sunday, tickets for kids 14-and-under and seniors 62-and-over are just $5 and hot dogs at McMorran Arena are only $1.
Tickets for all Icehawks home games are available now at the Icehawks office, McMorran Arena box office, all Ticketmaster locations and www.ticketmaster.com. For more information call 810-966-3800 or visit www.porthuronicehawks.com.
